Luis Hernández Mellizo

The work of Luis Hernández Mellizo (Bogotá, 1978) addresses different concerns related to the activity of the painter – seen from a material, historical and conceptual perspective – and the place of the artist in society. His work is developed from a critical view of the local context, the redefinition of political discourses and the relationship between city, art and society. He studied Visual Arts at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Bogotá (1996 - 2001 and 2008 - 2009) and at the Universidad Nacional de las Artes in Buenos Aires, Argentina (2012 - 2013 and 2016). He has done artistic residencies in spaces such as BijlmAIR (Amsterdam) and URRA (Buenos Aires). He has exhibited in cities such as Buenos Aires, Amsterdam, Ghent, Bogota, Cali, and Medellin. He lives and works in Bogotá.
