EXHIBITION INFORMATION:

“Detener la mirada” brings together three approaches to the landscape, which are based on different concerns and media (photography, painting and installation), and together constitute a reflection on the contemporary view of natural spaces and human dialogues with the world. Camilo Echavarría’s work appeals to a slow time, both in the process of research, travel and journey, as well as in the perception of his photographs; the amount of information they contain provides them with specificity, textures, and a narrative power that forces one to stop. Alejandro Sintura’s canvases explore the ambiguity between the pictorial fact and the recognition of the referent, hence they are halfway to abstraction. In addition, his landscape exercises focus on the sensory experience of the body in space, studying atmospheric changes. In the case of Sonia Rojas, her installations address the tensions between life and death, their rituals and traces, with respect to human and non-human beings, while expanding the idea of landscape by presenting – no longer representing – fragments of the territory, which continue to transform over the duration of the exhibition.
