EXHIBITION INFORMATION:

“Detener la mirada” brings together three approaches to landscape, stemming from distinct concerns and media (photography, painting, and installation), and together they constitute a reflection on the contemporary view of natural spaces and human dialogues with the world. Camilo Echavarría's work appeals to a slow pace, both in the process of research, travel, and exploration, and in the perception of his photographs; the wealth of information they contain endows them with specificity, textures, and a narrative power that compels us to pause. Alejandro Sintura's canvases explore the ambiguity between the pictorial act and the recognition of the referent, hence their position halfway toward abstraction. Furthermore, his landscape exercises focus on the body's sensorial experience in space, studying atmospheric changes. In the case of Sonia Rojas, her installations address the tensions between life and death, their rituals and traces, in relation to human and non-human beings, while expanding the idea of landscape by presenting – no longer representing – fragments of the territory, which continue their transformation throughout the duration of the exhibition.
