Esteban Peña’s work is based on an interest in the means of producing and reproducing images, understood as a representative dimension of reality, whose meaning expresses an idea or concept beyond the referenced object. In his most recent work, entitled “Creer para ver” (Believe to See), Peña continues the research on color that he has been developing since 2006 and creates a series of chromatic compositions – in the same way that a printer would – through the juxtaposition of layers of basic CMYK colors (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black). In this exhibition, which consists of an installation and nine medium-format paintings, Peña takes as a reference light installations, iconic objects in our popular culture that are used in modern rituals to commemorate a special date or to mark a time of year.
