Pencil drawings proposes an exploration of form through line, encompassing the spatial and object dimensions of drawing. The artist uses pencil as raw material, transcending its traditional role as a work tool, by converting it into the fundamental unit of composition defined by the straight line. Thus, through modular repetition, Peña creates abstract forms that reflect isometric and concentric views. The physical characteristics of pencils, in particular the angles and the presence of yellow and black stripes on Staedtler Noris pencils, serve as guidelines and limitations for the exercise. Through the act of slashing, the artist introduces another variable to the composition, by interspersing pencils on the verge of disappearing with others that are barely beginning.
