In the dialectic between art and science, the staging of the scientific image always responds to an allegorical representation of reality and to a symbolic reconstruction of the structures and components of matter. In her most recent work, entitled Alterĭtas – a word that comes from late Latin and means the condition of being other – Marcela Cárdenas brings together several interests that have always been present in her work and are related to the study of biology, the evolution of species and the hybridization between the different kingdoms of nature (vegetable, animal and mineral). Her work is articulated from a correspondence between the models of scientific cataloging and the terminology of biology itself. However, beyond an exercise of observation of science, the artist decodes this doctrinal language from analogies and metaphors, which she finds in literature, fables and popular culture, and which bring the viewer closer to a subjective reality, close to the formation of a pseudo-science.
