Much of the work that Ana Mercedes Hoyos has developed in the last years of her career has consisted of reviewing events, situations, anecdotes and historical events that have developed in the country around the Afro-descendant culture. Many of its economic and cultural practices have been captured by this outstanding artist. In this, her most recent project, she has decided to explore outside of conventional formats and bring from the canvas to the wall of a private building, the scene of one of the most exciting and festive practices carried out in San Basilio de Palenque: The prize pole. This practice consists of a group of young people trying to climb 5 meters of oiled pole that separates them from the prize that the community has promised. This drawing exalts the power and transcendence of this wonderful culture that constitutes a fundamental part of our identity as a country, and that Hoyos recovers for the memory of all.
