As an extension of his project “Regresivo Progresivo” (2008), Saúl Sánchez began working on the piece “Lección 54” (2012) in which he transcribed the word “copia” and all its conjugations using Gregg shorthand. The choice of the word “copia” in this work is interesting, as it implies the act of “copying” the word in its act of creation. It is no longer an appropriation by the artist, nor an exercise in re-creation, but rather the literal copying of a gesture, which places the artist in the position of a copyist who does not add content to the subject referred to.
