MARCELA CÁRDENAS IN REGIONAL IMAGE 9 OF THE BANK OF THE REPUBLIC

The work “Ahilado Conjunto” from the Riphsalis series (2018) is part of Regional Image 9 – Andean and Coffee of the Banco de la República museum network. The exhibition was curated by Melissa Aguilar Restrepo.

Regional Image is an exhibition program of the Banco de la República that circulates and makes visible the processes of artistic creation in different regions of Colombia. It is also a platform for reflection and dialogue on artistic work in the regions, through curatorships of exhibitions, workshops and talks in which creators, curators and the general public come together. It is a national program that promotes dialogue between artists, curators and the community around contemporary artistic practices.

The curator mentions “Marcela works from epithet cacti that are commonly called Riphsalis and that normally grow on trees in a symbiotic relationship, this pretext serves to make a sculptural exploration through materials that from the concept and treatment are linked to the natural world. Particularly in her project, from the graphic to sculptural media, nature is taken as a point of reference.”
