Ana Mercedes Hoyos's work was chosen to participate in the exhibition "Artistic License: Six Takes on the Guggenheim Collection" at the Guggenheim in New York. The exhibition opened in May of this year and will run until January 12, 2020. It was curated by six contemporary artists, and it was American artist Carrie Mae Weems who selected the painting "Atmosphere" (1978) to be part of its curatorship.
'Artistic License' is an exhibition that seeks to give visibility to voices that have not been represented in major North American museums until very recently. Ana Mercedes Hoyos's painting is accompanied by works by two other Latin American artists—Ana Mendieta and Liliana Porter. The painting is part of the 'Atmospheres' series, where seemingly flat color actually materializes the three-dimensionality of atmospheres from the pictorial plane.
